I don't mind telling you, my first day at Maniac Mansion was very scary. There I was, surrounded by humans. Now, I had not had any horrible experiences with people, but my mother had certainly put the fear of humans in my head so I was quite nervous. Right then I was wishing that I had paid more attention to her warnings. People are so big, I had to crane my neck just to see their faces.
The first thing they did was plop me down in a box with sand in it, and I'm glad they did because it didn't look as though there was any place else with any privacy that I could dig in. The first thing I did was to find a hiding place. I found the purrfect spot inside the bottom of the refrigerator at the back. It was a cosy little spot and no one could get to me. The compressor kept it warm and made this soothing hum that almost made me forget about my predicament. The only problem with my new hiding place was poor visibility. I had no way of finding out what was going on anywhere else in the house unless I left the security of the fridge. It was time to explore.
Those darn humans, the first thing they wanted to do was pick me up. Well I let them know in no uncertain terms that behaviour of that sort was not allowed. I showed them just what I could do with my sharp teeth and claws. They soon left me to explore on my own. In my travels I discovered a vent opening that I could enter. I noticed the faint trail of a mouse so I delved further into the duct work. I came upon a huge chasm. I would have to jump over it if I wanted to explore any further. I gathered myself up and leapt. Unfortunately I didn't make it. I fell for what seemed like forever, then I landed unceremoniously in the dark. I was at the bottom of a large shaft. The walls afforded no way to climb out, I was trapped. I called and called, I don't know why, because I was pretty sure that my mother couldn't hear me. After what seemed like an eternity the humans showed up and rescued me. I guess they are not so bad after all.
Well that was a little unnerving, but I wasn't going to let it get me down. I knew there was a mouse around there somewhere and I was going to find it. Sure enough after the lights went off and everyone else was asleep the mouse showed up. I may have to share this house with humans but I was not going to stand for sharing with this or any other mouse. I made my move and made short work of that mouse. I left his dead carcass in the middle of the floor as a warning to any other foolhardy mouse that might care to invade my new domain. In the morning the humans seemed quite impressed with my hunting prowess. Maybe being picked up and stroked isn't so bad, as long as it's only when I say so. They seem to understand who is in charge.
